I have been counting down the days since last summer when my family announced that 23 of us would be going to Cancun, Mexico over Christmas break to celebrate my Grandpa and Grandma Smits' 50th wedding anniversary. Now that time has already come and past. I had the most amazing time with my family. Ages 2-76 hopped on a plane very early on Christmas Eve morning and landed in Cancun with time in the sun that day to spare. We enjoyed the beautiful weather and stunning beach everyday. It was awesome to be with my extended family every hour of the day, we all sat on the beach together, went swimming together and relaxed and celebrated together.
Okay, after like 29375609 tries to upload you guys some pictures of my fabulous time, I am calling it quits! My computer is being a pain, I will try again some other time!

the latest and greatest.
Tonight at supper my mom asked me if I blogged lately. I said no, basically because I have nothing new to say, but I decided to blog anyways.
This past weekend was filled with all things great. I got to fulfill big sister duties and go to my sister Rachel's basketball game, she scored 4 of the teams 13 points. I also got to spend some time with Landon and Addie at the game, they kept us all laughing as Landon drove his tractors in a line down the bleachers and Addie ate crayons, paper, and a really minty mint. After the game I went to Leahy's for supper with Nathanael's parents, and my family. It was different to be with both sides at once, but I thought it was fun and a good idea.
Saturday I did a lot of cleaning and unpacking. I am determined to rearrange Rachel's room before Cancun. Nathanael needed Carhartt overalls for work this week so we took a afternoon trip to Beaver Dam and got to do an afternoon date. We both usually work on Saturdays so that was something we had never done in our 3 years together before. Then on Saturday night my family + Nathanael went to Fond du Lac to check out the mall and see the lights in Lakeside Park-it was beautiful, and funny.
Sunday was the Sunday School Christmas program and we got to see Landon sing songs and tell the congregation that he would give Jesus a little green horse for Christmas. A lot of the kids had funny answers like that- a rainbow cake and five balloons, a heating pad...you get the jist of it. The Packers lost and Nathanael and I finished his homework for the year and went to the Candlelight service at church where I got to sit by Lyssa.
Today I worked from 6-10, I got sent home early because we are down 7 beds at work. I was a little bummed but I got to go to Beaver Dam again with my sisters after they got done with school to do some returns and find Rachel a Christmas Banquet dress.
My sisters have exams this week so I am about to help them study. Rach has her Biology exam tomorrow, I am about to explain the Krebs Cycle and Electron Transport Chain for the 2937560 millionth time.
Keep enjoying the season....
the celebration of Christ's birth is near.

There's Something About This Place
Finally here, finally home.
Finished my nursing concepts exam in a half hour, sold some textbooks, finally found my car after wandering in the BBC-then realizing I parked in the chap, driving home, talking to Gram, and picking up my sister and 'sister' from basketball practice, and now I'm anxiously checking my final grades, in all of the happiness of my home.
A few girls were talking about the little things that we look forward to when we return to our roots, families, and our own hometowns. Some look forward to warmth or stars, I enjoy the open space and fresh air that I get when I come back to Markesan, Wisconsin. Love my rural community.
This is the only picture of my 'home' that I have on my computer.
This break I am looking forward to a few things:
1) Cancun, Mexico, with 22 other members of my family.
2) Snow-snowmobiling, sledding, ice skating and all the other joys that come with snow.
3) Final Season Premiere of One Tree Hill-I've realllly missed it!
4) Shopping :)
5) Working at Markesan Resident Home again-WAYYY looking forward to catching up with my favorite residents
6) Seeing family in/from Oostburg and celebrating the birth of Christ with them
7) The church Christmas program (with bags full of fruit, candy, and peanuts after) as well as the Candlight Service at church.
8) Chats with Grandma Smits (already got one in! lucky me!)
8) Nathanael-I really miss this kid...
.....he needs to come over soon.
There's something about this place that makes me feel welcome...it's love.

Dreaming of a White Christmas
I have my pandora set on Christmas songs tonight. While I was walking to the BBC for my favorite seasonal drink, the Fireside Latte, I was wondering why there wasn't any snow on the ground. I was shivering in my coat and mittens, and there wasn't even any pretty snow on the ground to look at.
Since I have a December birthday, I enjoy snow for my birthday as well as Christmas. Here is a picture from my birthday weekend last year, it's crazy how each year brings something different.
Look at all that snow!
While I am wishing for a white christmas, I keep remembering that even if there is snow at home for Christmas, I won't even be there! The only white I'm going to see this Christmas is the white, sandy beaches of Cancun. I believe the countdown is at 11 days! I remember counting down from the hundred-somethings. I am eager to make an international trip with 22 other members of my family.
I had two exams today, Music and Philosophy. Let's just say that I am very thankful I won't have to take any more of those classes in my entire life. I also enjoyed 'talking' to many members of my family today. Texting makes it so much easier to connect with my family back home. I also got to actually talk to Nathanael, we are both ready to be done with school for awhile!
I went to a Biology review session tonight, so I thought it was appropriate for me to reward myself with a study break, I found this on the curly girl website and fell in love with it.
A perfect reminder for me to be 'real' everyday.

Sunday Funday
Today's original plan was to study all day long and write a few of my Philosophy essays for the final tomorrow. It's currently 1:00 and I have yet to begin any sort of studying, and yet, I am at peace with that.
I can't seem to wipe a smile off my face since last night. A bunch of girls planned to dress up and go to a restaurant in Worth to surprise Victoria and hold a going away party as she is planning for a semester in Ecuador in January. We looked good!
After good food and fellowship we looked at Christmas lights in the neighborhoods around Trinity. I wish there was more snow- I am anxious to get back to Wisconsin to see if there is any more white on the ground than there is here in Palos Heights. Then a bunch of us went to the BBC to listen to Fitter and Vinnie Adams perform, with coffee in hand. :) The night concluded in Tib34 playing games of telephone pictionary, quite hilarious. It was one of those times where I felt incredibly blessed to be surrounded by such a beautiful group of people. I also received many phone calls and texts regarding my only older Smits cousins engagement! Congrats to Mike and Kaitlin!
Today Sarah and I took the bus to Palos CRC where we found plenty of other Trinity students. Members of the congregation fed us a traditional, Dutch, meat and potatoes meal and gave us exam packs full of snacks for our long hours of studying ahead. My tummy is satisfied and my mind is clear and ready for studying!
Tonight I am looking forward to Sunday Night Skype, this tradition began with my family and we skype every Sunday night after they come home from church. I look forward to this SO much, it gives me an opportunity to fulfill my role of 'big sister' and keep in touch with everything happening at home. Recently, Nathanael and I started skyping on Sunday nights as well. I get to talk to him until my family signs in. Though we get to talk on the phone often and text throughout every day, I enjoy 'face to face' conversation with my best friend!
The Packer game starts in T-2 hours, so if I want to talk with my family and Nathanael and watch the game I better start last bit of reviewing now! Only 4 more sleeps until I am back home. :)
I have been reading through the Bible this year through onebookonebody. A verse from today's reading is so applicable! From 1 Peter 5: 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

finals week
Right now I am in a cubby of the library here at Trinity, trying to study for my Biology exam. Next Wednesday, I will be tested on the brain and nervous system, both in an exam format and in a practical setting. I am not looking forward to this exam, I know I haven't prepared well enough-yet.
This week seemed to fly by, and I am very thankful for that. I am ready for this semester to come to a close. I didn't mind any of my classes, but didn't particularly love any of them or have a favorite. (Though I will admit I will miss Dr. Boomsma in Bio 206 next semester!) I am looking forward to what I have picked out for next Spring's semester. I will finally be finished with icky gen ed's like Philosophy and History, and can work through the rest of the requirements before I apply for the nursing program!
As I sit here, it's hard to believe that I have been at Trinity for 3 semesters already. Some days I feel like college has just flown by, and other days seem to last forever, and all I really want on those days is to be home in Wisconsin with my family and friends.
Nathanael's sister texted me today and asked me to listen to a song that is her new favorite on youtube. So here's to all my fellow Trinity and other college friends, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISgr8SgCYbY May you recognize that God is holding you through these final days of the semester!
